Ghanaian actor, Prince David Osei has expressed his displeasure in how most people tag acting as a job for folks who have nothing better to do in their lives or for school dropouts.
Speaking in an interview with Dr. Cann on Happy FM, Prince David Osei said that the status and importance of the career has been reduced by many as it is being recommended for people who are unqualified in other sectors and school dropouts.
“The sad thing is that most people think acting is a job for school drop-outs or people who have nothing to do but it is a serious business”, he lamented.
“Acting is a serious job that we’re doing and this job of acting has opened a lot of doors for us internationally and globally, and it has helped us to meet certain people that we would never even have gotten the chance to meet on a normal day,” he added.
According to him, he feels insulted when people who want to venture into the career have no educational background or training, adding that the profession should be regarded as very important just like any other profession.
“When I see people come in and say they want to act but they don’t even have any educational background and they’re not trained for what they say they want to do, I feel it’s an insult. Acting is just like every other profession such as a doctor or lawyer”, he said.
He said that in order to become an actor, one must master specific skills and procedures. As a result, no matter how much one believes in oneself, one must undergo training and cannot become an actor simply because they believe they possess certain characteristics that qualify them.
“You need the training, you need to go through the process and you need to take it personally just like someone takes the job that requires them to go to the office every morning personal”, he noted.
