The use of insults contributed to the collapse of Kumawood – Mr. Beautiful

Ghanaian comedian Clement Bonney, popularly known as Mr Beautiful, has emphasised that the use of inappropriate and unprintable words in Kumawood movies contributed to the collapse of the industry.

Speaking with Nana Ama Ntiful on Oyerepa Entertainment Review, Mr Beautiful indicated that Ghanaians living abroad use these movies to teach their children the language and culture.

“For instance, when you come to Kumasi, insults like ‘Aboa’ and ‘Kwasia’ are used for fun. But we forget that the movies are not sold only in Kumasi but also outside. Those abroad realise our movies are teaching their kids the wrong things. When you complain to a director that insults are not good, he will fight you. All these factors led to the decline of the industry.” he said.

He added that the lack of commitment to rehearsals within Kumawood has also contributed to its collapse, leaving productions without new ideas or creativity on set.
