The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has instructed all staff of the Births and Deaths Registry across the country to stay away from work starting Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
This latest directive stems from what CLOGSAG describes as ongoing misconduct and a toxic work environment under the leadership of Acting Registrar Samuel Adom Botchway.
In a letter dated June 12, 2025, and addressed to the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, the Association detailed grievances against Mr. Botchway, accusing him of overstepping his mandate by unilaterally transferring and reassigning staff within both the Civil and Local Government Services without proper clearance.
CLOGSAG further alleged that Mr. Botchway has subjected staff to verbal abuse and threats, creating what they termed an “uncongenial” and hostile workplace atmosphere.
This isn’t the first time tensions have flared between the Association and the Registrar. On February 20, 2025, CLOGSAG embarked on a nationwide strike demanding Mr. Botchway’s removal, citing political interference and calling for the post to be filled by a career civil servant. At the time, they also raised concerns over Mr. Botchway’s alleged ties to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
