The Minority in Ghana’s Parliament is calling for the immediate suspension of the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), Sammy Gyamfi, after a viral video showed him handing over an undisclosed amount of US dollars to evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
The footage, which has sparked widespread public criticism, features Gyamfi giving cash to the controversial former fetish priestess.
Despite issuing a public apology, Gyamfi has been summoned by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, to explain his actions.
Addressing the media on Monday, May 12, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Walewale and Finance Committee member, Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, demanded swift action from the President.
“The Minority is calling for the immediate suspension of Sammy Gyamfi as Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. This act is a blatant violation of the Code of Conduct, the Foreign Exchange Act, and the Currency Act,” Dr. Mahama stated.
He emphasized that Gyamfi, a seasoned lawyer, should have known better.
“Ignorance of the law is no excuse, and in this case, Mr. Gyamfi is not ignorant. He is fully aware of the legal implications of his actions and must be held accountable,” he added.
The Minority has also called for a comprehensive investigation into the source of the dollar bills seen in the video.
“We demand a full-scale investigation to uncover the origin of the US dollars displayed in the viral footage,” Dr. Mahama urged.
