Ghanaian singer Kweku Darlington has disclosed his performance fee for political events in an interview with Nana Kwesi Bliss on Class 91.3 FM’s Class Xtra.
The “Sika Kankan” hitmaker emphasized that music is his profession and, as a businessman, he is open to performing at political gatherings for a fee.
With Ghana’s December 7 elections approaching, Kweku Darlington expressed his willingness to honour invitations from political candidates, viewing such performances as part of his job.
However, he drew the line at recording and releasing campaign songs, indicating that he is not yet ready to take that step.
He indicated this was a great risk which could have severe consequences for his “young” career since it would be received as an open and emphatic political statement.
“I could say, ‘Your Excellency since it’s you who is asking for this service, give me only GH¢80,000 or GH¢90,000 to perform. I’ll go perform and if another party calls, I’ll do the same.
“The only thing I will not do is the campaign song because in that case you’ve limited and put yourself in a box,” the Sika Aba Fie hitmaker said.
