The timely intervention of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia prevented the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from suffering a significant setback after the 2012 polls, according to Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Tafo-Pankrono in the Ashanti Region.
During an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Tuesday, Assafuah disclosed that Dr Bawumia courageously defended the NPP in court when the party’s top officials had abandoned it.
Assafuah emphasized the vital role played by Bawumia, stating that without his intervention, the NPP would have faced a potential collapse during that critical period.
“In 2012 after the presidential elections, at the time the party was at the point of no return, at the time everyone has forsaken NPP, we had people like Dr Mahamud Bawumia staging through cross-examination with Tatsu Tsikata, not evidence in chief but he stood in court defending this party.”
Ekow Assafuah proclaimed on the show that, there is no other person except Bawumia who automatically qualifies to be the flagbearer of the NPP.
He said the Vice president has competently carried the NPP on his shoulders more than another aspirant. Therefore believes that the party’s delegates will give him the mandate to lead the party to become the next president of Ghana.
‘” The next president of Ghana is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he confidently declared.
