Ghanaian musician, AK Songstress, born Akosua Kwakye has explained the distinction between Afrobeats and Highlife.
When asked about the similarities between Afrobeat and Highlife, AK Songstress stated that they are the same sound with different names in the music world.
“Personally as far as me as an artiste is concerned Afrobeat and Highlife are the same sound,” she told Amansan Krakye the host.
“Just that we as Ghanaians call our Highlife but in the bigger market it is called Afrobeat,” She said.
“Afrobeat is an African sound and when you listen there are so many songs that fall under Afrobeat,” she revealed on Cape Coast’s Kastle FM.
AK Songstress further said, “Highlife falls under Afrobeat and then there are a couple of African beats and sounds that fall under Afrobeat”.
