The Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia Constituency in the Ashanti Region Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh in a press briefing today has thrown more light on the re-opening of schools for final years in tertiary.
The Education Minister said all academic activities will commence on but it will depend on the reactions of the virus. He also said religious activities will not be allowed in schools when schools resume. At the press briefing, he made mention of providing three (3) sets of face masks to every student, providing WASH facilities for all schools and disinfecting all educational institutions both private and public.
Education Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh came out with the date for all final year students in tertiary. He then said all final year students shall spend six (6) weeks for academic works and also spend four (4) weeks for exams. Examination Halls already practice social distancing, he added.
Education Minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, gave out the guidelines for reopening schools for finalists to complete their courses applicable to all educational institutions. He also made it clear to all institutions that their training facilities are allowed to open from the 15th of June 2020. He then said sports or sporting events are not allowed in schools.
Education Minister also said Government of Ghana commends UTAG for their immense contributions and also welcomes input to make Public Universities Bill a better law. He applauded Government of Ghana for approving the increment of Research allowance from GH¢ 500 to GH¢ 1,500 which is 200% increase.
Foreign students who are in their final years were also not left out. The Minister for Education said foreign students who are outside the country and are identified will be allowed to continue their education in Ghana if only their country grants them exits.
