President John Mahama has shared details of the moment he received a congratulatory call from former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia following his victory in the 2024 presidential election.
Speaking during a fellowship with the clergy in Kumasi on Sunday, March 2, 2025, President Mahama revealed that he was asleep when Dr. Bawumia’s concession call came through.
He was awakened by his aides, who informed him of an important call.
Initially confused by the urgency, he asked who wanted to speak with him and was surprised to learn it was his “brother,” the Vice President. Realizing the significance of the moment, he quickly freshened up before answering.
President Mahama admitted that he had not expected such an early concession, as the nation was still awaiting official results from the Electoral Commission (EC).
However, he commended Dr. Bawumia for his humility and statesmanship during their conversation.
Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, conceded defeat on December 8, 2024.
His decision, aimed at preventing further tensions and maintaining peace in the country, earned him widespread praise and admiration.
