Former Sports Minister Elvis Afiriyie Ankrah has exposed how the coconut story rocked the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Shortly after the 2014 Brazil World Cup, in which the Black Stars of Ghana exited the tournament in the first round amidst a brouhaha over winning bonuses and appearance fees, Mr. Ankrah was accused of profligate expenditure during his time in the Latin American country as the head of the government delegation for the tournament.
He was accused of living an extravagant lifestyle in Brazil, including purchasing a coconut for $100.
The former minister, in an interview with Sometymer on Today’s Sports, revealed that a journalist was paid to tarnish his reputation.
“I drink coconut almost every day. A journalist was given money six times and a brand-new Hyundai Santa Fe vehicle to go after me. He came and confessed. There coconut issue in the commission of enquires report” he asserted.
