At least, 800 members and executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency of the Western North Region have defected to the biggest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the NPP members, certain people in the party in the Sefwi Akontombra constituency have become autocratic which isn’t helping the development of the constituency.
They lamented, the NPP under Alex John Oboa Tetteh and Johnson Amoah has consistently intimidated and arrested them during the party’s primaries. Again the mismanagement of the economy under the watch of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia has compelled them to defect to the NDC.
As per them, it is only the NDC that can forestall the development of Sefwi Akontombra hence the decision to join the party to win election 2024.
“We joined NPP in order to serve our communities, but certain people in the party, especially Sefwi Akontombra have hijacked the vision of the party. It has become a one-man party. No one is able to talk or do anything.
Anytime there are primaries since he wants to go unopposed, he let police and soldiers intimidate and arrest us. Sometimes they give us suspension so we are sick and tired of NPP.
We want a peaceful party; we want that party that will help the development of the country. We know it’s only NDC that can fix our roads and bring us massive development.
But NPP under Alex John Oboa Tetteh and Johnson Amoah among other executives, who are liars, can’t foster the development of Akontombra. So as the current NPP administration under Bawumia and Nana Addo has failed us. So we have defected to NDC to help the party to take power from NPP in 2024 to save the nation.” Prince Andoh aka Nana Abokyi, Western North NPP Communication Member stated on behalf of the defectors.
The NDC Chairman for Sefwi Akontombra constituency, Appiah Joseph, who accepted the defectors indicated that his party has officially accepted them however; NPP members shouldn’t dare do anything against the new members.
“Today they are here via the laws of the country and via our constituency secretary, we have accepted them. Now they’re members of NDC. We’ll marshal every force within the NDC to protect these new members.”
“We know the NPP members in Akontomra are very violent but they shouldn’t dare do anything against our new members.” Appiah Joseph aka Ammonia warned.
