Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has openly expressed disappointment over the party’s poor performance in the 2024 general elections, attributing the loss to the choice of presidential candidate.
In an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson, Owusu Bempah suggested that the selection of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer led to a significant backlash from the electorate, ultimately costing the NPP the presidency.
According to him, many loyal supporters of the NPP crossed party lines and voted for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the first time, expressing their discontent with the party’s leadership decisions.
“For the first time, I met a taxi driver who is a member of NPP who told me that he voted for the NDC in the 2024 election, he showed me his party card, and the reason is that we didn’t take the right candidate for him to come and vote for” he asserted.
