A suspect, named Kwabena Dennis, who had been detained by the police in Kenyasi, located in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region, managed to escape from the police cells.
This daring escape occurred after he threatened the officers with a machete and even bit one of them on the cheek when they tried to stop him from fleeing.
Kwabena Dennis was supposed to appear before the Kenyasi Circuit Court on January 17, 2024.
He faced charges of conspiracy to commit various crimes, including stealing, causing damage, unlawful entry, and possessing a firearm without authority.
However, Kwabena Dennis managed to evade capture before being taken to court.
According to information obtained by MyNewsGh.com, it is reported that he dashed for the exit of the police station brandishing a cutlass. Undeterred, Sergeant Kusi Michael, the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) of the station, pursued him and attempted to physically restrain him from fleeing. Unfortunately, the enraged prisoner bit him on the cheek and made his getaway.
It has come to light that the police officers responsible for the station – the NCO and Constable Victoria Antwi – were allegedly negligent in preventing the prisoner’s escape. They failed to thoroughly inspect the premises to ensure no prisoners were hiding in strategic locations to aid their escape, and neglected to properly secure all doors.
As a result, they have been given a ten-day ultimatum to locate the escaped prisoner or face disciplinary action, while investigations into the matter continue.
