President John Dramani Mahama has appointed former Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo, as the Board Chairman of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
EOCO, a specialised state agency, is tasked with monitoring, investigating, and prosecuting economic and organised crimes while recovering proceeds of such offences.
Mr. Domelevo, widely respected for his strong anti-corruption stance, is expected to inject integrity and expertise into the agency’s operations and help drive its mandate more effectively.
He first rose to national prominence in 2016 after his appointment as Auditor-General, where he championed accountability and transparency in the management of public finances.
However, in 2020, Domelevo’s tenure came to an abrupt end after then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo directed him to proceed on 169 working days of accumulated leave, a decision that ultimately led to his exit from office.
With his new role, expectations are high that Domelevo will reinforce EOCO’s institutional credibility and strengthen Ghana’s fight against corruption and economic crime.
