The Chiefs and Elders of Kwabenya in the Ga East Municipality of the Greater Accra Region have appealed to the government to provide essential infrastructure to improve living standards in the community.
The appeal was made during the celebration of the 2025 Homowo Festival, which marks the end of the annual ban on drumming and noise-making.
Nii Tetteh Ofantse Dza-Nyomo II, the Kwabenya-Musuku Mantse, urged the President—through the area’s Member of Parliament—to prioritise improving the road network, particularly the stretch from the Ga East Junction to the hospital.
He noted that the deplorable state of the road poses severe challenges for pregnant women seeking medical care, leading to loss of lives and miscarriages. The chief also called on the government to install streetlights to improve security and boost nighttime business activities.
Nii Dza-Nyomo II concluded his remarks by invoking divine blessings for the people of Kwabenya and its environs, including both residents and visitors.
Patrick Mensah, an elder of Kwabenya-Musuku, also appealed to Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, to assist in two key areas: road construction and the expansion of the local public school, which is currently overcrowded and unable to accommodate all children in the community.
He further encouraged the youth to make education their top priority, stressing that in this era of artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation, education remains the number one key to success.
