Police arrest 19-year-old over alleged armed robbery at Asabi

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with an armed robbery at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the incident occurred at about 12:20am on July 21, 2026.

The Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team, while on routine patrol, received information that a male adult had been robbed of his mobile phone and was lying unconscious near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.

A press release signed by Head of Public Affairs Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo on Wednesday said the patrol team proceeded to the scene.

Upon sighting the police, the suspect fled and hid in an uncompleted building. He was pursued and arrested.

The suspect was identified as Ahmed Mustapha, aged 19.
A search conducted on him led to the retrieval of the complainant’s mobile phone and a machete. Both items have been retained as exhibits.

The victim sustained machete wounds to the forehead, neck, and left hand.
He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital, where he was admitted and is currently receiving treatment.

At about 5:30am on the same day, the victim was visited at the hospital. He had regained consciousness, was in a stable condition, and continues to receive medical care under observation.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
