Approximately 40 Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have taken action on their promise to occupy the majority side of the House after a recall.
These MPs have now claimed seats on the majority side, leaving the minority side completely empty.
Adaklu MP, Governs Kwame Agbodza, had previously stated that the caucus would move to the majority side following Speaker Alban Bagbin’s announcement of four vacant seats.
With the NDC holding 136 seats and the NPP reduced to 135, the NDC has swiftly established itself as the new majority.
Despite the Supreme Court issuing a stay of execution on the ruling, the NDC MPs are adamant that they will follow Speaker Bagbin’s instructions rather than those of the Apex Court.
In the midst of the controversy, Speaker Bagbin clarified during a press briefing that he does not determine where MPs are seated in the chamber.
Reports indicate that no New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmakers are currently present in the chamber, even though the sitting is scheduled for 10 a.m.
However, the Majority Chief Whip and Tolon MP, Habib Iddrisu, has assured that there will be no conflict or chaos on the majority side of the chamber.
