Lynx Entertainment CEO, Richie Mensah, has called on fellow industry players not to rely on the government for support in the creative arts industry.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on January 23, 2025, Richie Mensah noted that creatives should take charge of their crafts and that the government would support the industry if they notice the potential in the sector.
“Stop looking for help from the government and do it yourself. To be able to get this distribution deal set up, I had to travel a lot and see how it was done in other countries. One thing I noticed everywhere I go is nobody is waiting on their government to help them. The private sector is doing great, and based on how the private sector is performing, the government gives support.
“Why are you waiting for the government? Do something for yourself, and anything that comes after that becomes a bonus. But if you are sitting there waiting for a government that is only there for four years to suddenly care so much about your sector and transform your life, it’s not going to happen,” he said.
Richie Mensah also added that creatives should pay their taxes in order to get the government’s attention.
“California has a higher GDP than Texas, which means when you are sitting in Washington, you will understand that entertainment is bringing us more in Texas than oil… So, when we entertainers start doing things properly, like stop swerving taxes, and we start making a certain amount of money in revenue, the government will realise that they will make more money from the creative arts industry if they invest in it… So, let’s work; so hard because you don’t have a choice, do something for yourself and stop looking for handouts,” he added.
