Following the obstruction of the main bridge across the River Ayensu in the Gomoa East District by a contractor working on the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway, over 150 residences in Gomoa Mampong are now under water.
The Ayensu River rises which is one of the biggest rivers in the Central Region, has its source in the Eastern Region and travels across the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway near Gomoa Okyereko before emptying into the ocean.
The contractor, entrusted with repairing the road, closed off the major bridge in order to build a solid structure that can manage the river’s water flow.
Residents who are stranded after their homes have been flooded are calling on the government to come to their aim and get them a place to lay their heads.
Gomoa Okyereko, Gomoa Mampong and some five towns are currently heavily inundated.
