The Ashanti Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission of Ghana, Clement Amoah Omari, has announced plans to plant a minimum of 2.5 million seedlings in the Ashanti Region.
During a press conference in Kumasi leading up to the Green Ghana Project on June 6, 2024, Mr. Omari revealed that over 14 million seedlings have been planted in the region since the project’s inception. This year, the goal is to plant 2.5 million seedlings or more.
Mr. Omari expressed concerns about challenges such as bushfires and illegal chainsaw activities that are negatively impacting the Forestry Commission. To combat these issues, the commission will take legal action against anyone found engaging in illicit activities.
Furthermore, Mr. Omari emphasized that the Forestry Commission is prepared to provide seedlings to all interested stakeholders who wish to participate in the tree-planting initiative.
“The tree planting project will restore the various depleted forests and water bodies,” he added.
