The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has launched an investigation into former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, and three others over the alleged embezzlement of GH¢1.3 billion from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF).
The UPPF was established to ensure the efficient nationwide distribution of petroleum products and stabilize fuel prices.
At a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced that the OSP is investigating suspected corruption and related offenses linked to the misappropriation of funds from the UPPF.
The probe targets four individuals: former NPA CEO Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, UPPF Coordinator Jacob Amoah, and two other officials, Wendy Ashong Newman and Freda Tandoh.
“The OSP has commenced investigations into suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses concerning an alleged embezzlement of GH₵1.3 billion from the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF) at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA),” Agyebeng stated.
Mustapha Abdul-Hamid served as NPA CEO from 2021 until early 2024, overseeing petroleum product pricing regulation, fuel quality standards, and the management of the UPPF.
The investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial irregularities and hold those responsible accountable.
