Some constituents of Adansi-Asokwa in the Ashanti Region have expressed their dissatisfaction with the underwhelming performance of their Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Kobina Tahir Hammond, commonly known as K.T. Hammond.
They believe that the MP is incompetent and should not be reelected in the upcoming NPP primaries on January 27, 2024.
K.T. Hammond, who has held the Adansi-Asokwa seat for 24 years, is seeking to win the NPP primaries to continue his tenure in the 2024 general elections.
However, a group of constituents, calling themselves the Adansi-Asokwa Youth for Change, voiced their opposition during a health walk organized by Richmond Ampong, stating that the lawmaker is undeserving of delegates’ votes in the NPP primaries.
“K.T. Hammond has held this position for 24 years, yet he has failed to assist anyone in this constituency. He lacks respect for the people here and often resorts to bullying and autocratic behaviour, frequently insulting us. As a result, our constituency is falling behind in terms of development, and he shows no concern for this issue. Throughout his tenure as the Member of Parliament for the Adansi-Asokwa constituency, he cannot even claim credit for establishing a single factory. Consequently, the youth in this area are facing high levels of unemployment,” stated Richmond Ampong, the leader of the youth.
The residents strongly cautioned the NPP delegates in the Adansi-Asokwa Constituency against casting their votes for K.T Hammond, citing his incompetence. They contended that the Member of Parliament has failed to make any meaningful contributions to the development of the constituency during his 24-year tenure. Consequently, they vowed to reject him in the upcoming 2024 general elections, even if he attempts to sway delegates with monetary incentives.
“We have received information that K.T. Hammond intends to offer every delegate a refrigerator and GHc3000 during the primaries. However, if these delegates choose to vote for K.T. Hammond, we will retaliate by voting against him in the 2024 elections. We’ll give him a showdown. We’ll let him know, that Adansi-Asokwa belongs to us and not him.” They issued a stern warning.
The constituents, however, earnestly implored the NPP delegates to cast their votes in favour of Sammy Binfo Adakwa, an aspiring parliamentary candidate from the NPP. They firmly believe that he is the sole contender capable of revolutionizing the lives of the youth and spearheading the much-needed development in the Adansi-Asokwa Constituency.
