The National Democratic Congress (N. D. C.) seem to be relentless in their quest to get the attention of the Electoral Commission (EC)to address their plights accordingly. After the N. D. C. in May 2020, sued the EC at the Supreme court over its decision to compile a new voters register ahead of the 2020 elections, the former is in with a new charge, as it claims the latter has removed the names of some of its supporters from the recently compiled voters register, in some constituencies, especially its strongholds.
According to N. D. C., many polling stations did not get the voter register they compiled.
In an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Show on Thursday, September 24, 2020, with Tweneboah Koduah (T. K.), Mr Kwaku Boahen, Deputy National Communications Officer of the N. D. C., was emphatic former Prez John Dramani Mahama has the capacity to address the Nation, as he will be doing today at 1 PM.
He indicated, “The address is to let Ghanaians know the bad things the EC is deliberately doing, and his arrangements to prevent their scheme from happening. Former Prez Mahama address is to encourage Ghanaians to remain resolute and go verify his/ her name in the voter’s register if only you are eligible.”
Mr. Kwaku Boahen alleged that it is true some constituencies have names of people removed from the voter’s register, of which the EC has attested to saying it is an error. “Many polling stations did not get the register, which is a deliberate attempt by the EC to disenfranchise many people, ” he further added.
The Deputy National Communications Officer wondered the relevance of the EC. “The core mandate of the EC is to compile names, organize elections and declare MPs and President. If you cannot do so, then where lies your relevance, ” Mr Boahen asked.
He alleged, “It is an attempt to bring chaos leading to extreme disorder. Election rigging is a process which starts from the compilation of voters register, through an exhibition, to the election day. All these come together to cause chaos.”
He stated emphatically, “We the N. D. C. won’t sit for Jane Mensah, Bossman Asare and Dr Serebour to take Ghanaians for granted. We will use every means to protect the elections to ensure it’s free and fair so whoever emerges the winner is accepted.”
