Actress and producer Matilda Asare has stirred political discussions with a recent viral video shared by MyNewsGH.com on X, in which she voiced strong opinions about Alan John Kyerematen’s new Movement for Change party.
In the video, Matilda claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is financially backing Kyerematen’s campaign to draw support away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), especially in the Ashanti Region, where he recently held a well-attended public walk.
Pointing to the crowd gathered for Kyerematen’s walk, Matilda argued, “It’s clear that the NDC is pulling strings in the background.
They’re providing funds and support to Alan Kyerematen’s campaign, hoping it’ll undermine the NPP’s influence.” She suggests that Kyerematen’s efforts are part of a larger strategy by the NDC to weaken the NPP stronghold as the December 7 election approaches.
While acknowledging Kyerematen’s long-standing ties to the Akan people, Matilda strongly believes his appeal to tribal sentiments won’t succeed with today’s electorate.
“This is not the Ghana of the past. The voters in the Ashanti Region have moved past these divisions. They want real policies, not appeals to tribal loyalty,” she emphasized.
She further asserted that despite Kyerematen’s efforts, his movement is unlikely to achieve any significant impact in the elections.
“He may be drawing crowds now, but it’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who resonates with the people. Bawumia’s track record and vision make him the preferred candidate in the Ashanti Region and beyond,” Matilda stated.
She argued that Bawumia’s support will only continue to grow, especially in areas like the Ashanti Region, which traditionally aligns with the NPP.
Concluding her statements, Matilda addressed the potential influence of what she labeled as “NDC propaganda.” She said, “The people of Ashanti know what they want. They’re not going to be swayed by political gimmicks or financial influences. Bawumia is the key to a prosperous Ghana, and the voters see that.”
In Matilda’s view, the NDC’s efforts to back Kyerematen are futile, as she believes the electorate is better informed and committed to transformative leadership.
Her candid comments have ignited conversations across social media, illustrating how closely celebrities are involved in political discussions leading up to the elections.
