A recent Center for Democratic Development CDD-Ghana Afrobarometer survey has revealed that honesty and character are top priorities for Ghanaians in the upcoming elections.
An overwhelming 90% of respondents stated they would vote for a candidate who demonstrates honesty, while 88% emphasized the importance of a candidate’s character. Additionally, 59% of Ghanaians will consider campaign promises when casting their votes.
These findings indicate that Ghanaians value integrity and moral principles in their leaders, with honesty and character outweighing campaign promises as decisive factors.
Presenting the report, Dr Edem Selormey, Director of Research at the Center for Ghana Democratic Development CDD-Ghana said, 58% of Ghanaians plan to vote for both presidential and parliamentary candidates from the same party in the upcoming December elections. This trend indicates strong party loyalty among Ghanaian voters.
To her, despite concerns about reported political violence, most Ghanaians report having little or no fear of political intimidation or violence during the 2020 campaign period. And the overall Ghanaians continue to view elections as the best method for selecting their leaders.

He said the he Electoral Commission of Ghana has a crucial role in maintaining transparency and fairness. Afrobarometer’s research provides valuable insights into Ghana’s electoral landscape, highlighting the importance of honesty, character, and democratic governance.
The survey’s findings suggest that party affiliation plays a crucial role in Ghanaian voters’ decisions, consistent with Ghana’s multi-party system dominated by the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.
