The Narcotic control commission has cautioned the public to be mindful of the dangers of excessive use of non-prescribed drugs.
Mr. Jude Poku, Head of Drugs Demand Reduction in the Ahafo Region gave the caution when he was speaking at a seminar organised by the Commission for Goaso Nursing and Midwifery Training School.
Mr. Jude said, some people have become addicted to hard drugs and have developed a strong desire for them notwithstanding the dangerous effects associated with them.
He said mostly the youth enter into such situations due to peer influences, loneliness, depression, frustration and curiosity.
He mentioned drugs like Tramadol, wee, excessive alcohol, inhaling of super glue and diapers and some even go to the extent of smoking lizard shits.
Mr. Jude mentioned such acts cause cancer, madness, stroke, sexual impotence, dental cavities, low sperm production, and damage to the brain.
He added social vices such as robbery, violence, and rape are mostly committed by people who are addicted to hard drugs.
Rev Ebenezer Kwame Frimpong Head Pastor of Abundant Life Baptist Church in Goaso who doubles as Chairman of the Local Council of Churches on his part urged the public especially the youth to change their attitudes and begin to walk on the new way of life to benefit themselves and the society.
He entreated all religious bodies and authorities to help in the fight against drug abuse.
