Vice Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, believes that John Dramani Mahama is aware the current government has done better.
According to him, the former President conceded while addressing students of Harvard Business School that Africa struggled during the pandemic and it has hurt the continent.
However, the government regardless of the challenges, has made life better despite room for improvement.
Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, who spoke on Accra-based Peace FM when he made this known, said John Dramani Mahama’s comment is an admission that the government has done well under the circumstances.
He argued that regardless of the ravages of COVID-19, the government has been consistent in ensuring that the people of Ghana are not affected by the challenges COVID-19 brought across the world.
“The economy is not as bad as they make it seem. Mahama has acknowledged that African countries are suffering because of COVID. The disease has affected several economies and that is what we are experiencing.
Even abroad they could not get fuel; some were not paid, but workers were paid in Ghana. We saw that the government gave food and water, among others, to the people who were in need. We gave subsidies to private companies to pay workers.”
To him, it would have been a sordid sight if Ghana experienced COVID-19 and other external shocks like the country has done in the last four years because even without COVID-19, John Dramani Mahama and his NDC failed woefully.
