Renowned Nigerian actor Victor Osuagwu, also known as Awilo Sharp Sharp, has urged the Ghanaian government to address the traffic issues plaguing the Kumasi-Offinso route.
The Kumasi-Offinso Highway serves as a vital link between the Ashanti, Bono East, and the 3 Northern Regions of Ghana. It also connects Ghana to neighbouring countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Ivory Coast.
Unfortunately, the highway’s traffic problems and deteriorating condition have led to numerous accidents and loss of life and property.
On Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Friday, 22nd March 2024, Awilo, who is currently travelling the route with Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin for their upcoming movie, “A Country Called Ghana,” expressed dismay at the severe traffic congestion from Kumasi to Offinso.
He emphasized the urgent need for the Ghanaian government, under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo, to prioritize resolving the traffic issues on the international highway and within Kumasi City.
“Ofinso Road is something else, that’s why we talk about the politics in Africa. When we go to Europe, when we go to the US, we enjoy the kind of road networks there. And most of our leaders visit there and they see what is going on there but they will not replicate what they’ve seen there.
I see no reason why that road (Kumasi-Offinso highway) shouldn’t be a free road. It’s an international road, it links so many other African countries so the government of Ghana needs to do something (fix) about that route.
Make that road a free-flowing traffic.” Awilo Sharp Sharp told MFK in an exclusive interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Friday, 22nd March 2024.
