Dr. K.K. Sarpong, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to assess presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong on his overall character rather than his outspoken nature.
Kennedy Agyapong is widely known as a “no-nonsense” figure who reacts strongly when provoked, a trait that has sparked debate within the party.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, January 20, Dr. Sarpong said Agyapong’s temperament is manageable and should not overshadow his strengths.
“I did a summary; his pluses outweigh the negatives. The only concern people often mention is his speech, but that is something we can manage so his positive qualities benefit the country,” Dr. Sarpong said.
He also highlighted Agyapong’s clean record, noting the absence of corruption allegations. “Have you heard of him being involved in corruption? Insults aside, look at the totality of his personality,” he added.
Dr. Sarpong, who has interacted closely with Agyapong, described him as humble and increasingly presidential in his conduct. “I got closer to him and saw how humble he is. Over the last six months, have you heard anything negative? This is not pretense,” he said.
According to Dr. Sarpong, Agyapong’s recent behavior and leadership choices reflect maturity, and he should be judged on his full spectrum of qualities. “Whatever he is, don’t judge him by one variable; judge him by the totality of the variables,” he emphasized.
