The Asanteman Traditional Council has cleared Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, of any wrongdoing.
Chairman Wontumi, who is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), was summoned by the chiefs after allegedly making derogatory comments against the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The council advised Wontumi’s accuser, Kokosuhene Nana Kwaku Duah, to refrain from bringing political issues to the Manhyia Palace.
During the council meeting, one of the chiefs argued on behalf of Wontumi, stating that his comments were limited to the NPP and not directed towards the Asantehene.
Prior to the meeting, Wontumi had failed to appear due to ill health but was seen in a video arriving at the Manhyia Palace, accompanied by prominent figures from the NPP.
Earlier reports had suggested that the Kumasi Traditional Council would decide on the case, with members called into a meeting to discuss the matter.
