A heavy security presence at the Council of State re-election in the Ashanti Region led to dramatic scenes as prominent political figures, including former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum and former Bantama MP Henry Kwabena Kokofu, were turned away by police for lacking accreditation.
Other notable figures, including Kwadaso MP Kingsley Nyarko and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, were also barred from entering the main auditorium where voting was taking place.
Police officers at the venue maintained strict enforcement of access rules, insisting that only accredited individuals specifically assembly members eligible to vote were permitted inside.
Despite the restrictions, the affected individuals complied with the directive and left, according to reports.
Security at the polling station remained tight, with barricades in place and a water cannon on standby, signaling the police’s readiness to maintain order.
Earlier, police in the Ashanti Region arrested one person following chaos that erupted on the election grounds.
