There was a heated altercation in Parliament on Tuesday between Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, and his fellow New Patriotic Party (NPP) colleague MP, Sylvester Tetteh of Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, over an unpaid personal loan.
According to Daniel Kenu, a Parliamentary reporter for Graphic Online who witnessed the incident, Sly Tetteh attempted to exchange pleasantries with Agyapong, but the latter became infuriated for no apparent reason.
Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin swiftly intervened and escorted Tetteh out of the chamber.
Although the incident occurred without the knowledge of the presiding first Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei Owusu, and the fact that neither Agyapong nor Tetteh spoke into the microphone, it caught the attention of journalists and those in the public gallery.
According to Daniel Kenu, Tetteh owes Agyapong money, and when confronted about it, Tetteh allegedly dismissed the issue and told Agyapong to take him to court. This response seemingly further angered Agyapong, leading to his aggressive reaction.
