Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed his concern that in Ghana, individuals who exhibit confidence and truthfulness are often misconstrued as arrogant.
In contrast, those who peddle falsehoods are frequently celebrated and perceived as virtuous. Dr. Prempeh emphasized that he was raised to be fearless, confident, and truthful, and he remains committed to upholding these values.
He made these remarks during a courtesy visit to the Omanhene of the Wasa Amenfi Traditional Council, Tetrete Okuamoah Sakyim II.
“In Ghana’s politics, if you speak the truth, you’re labelled as arrogant, but if you massage the facts, people hail you. I’m your son and grandson, and I was brought up to be confident and fearless,” he said.
Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh could not fathom why the role of Chiefs in the administration of the country had been relegated to the background in recent times.
He indicated that with him at the helm of affairs, chiefs will be given the needed recognition and roles to make them more influential in decision-making that affects the people who they lead indicating that the Chiefs were in existence before the Whiteman’s established democratic institutions in the country.
