Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has reassigned 84 senior police officers nationwide, with some being transferred from the Police Headquarters to outstations and vice versa.
Among those affected are Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Lysander Asare, who have been posted to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Judicial Protection Unit, respectively.
Both officers were implicated in the leaked tape that revealed a plot to remove former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. They later appeared before a parliamentary committee investigating the matter, addressing concerns about their professionalism and adherence to Police Service regulations. The committee subsequently recommended disciplinary action against them.
However, sources within the Police Service suggest that some view their new postings as promotions rather than punitive measures, sparking concerns about the precedent it sets.
Meanwhile, COP George Alex Mensah, a key figure in the controversy, has since retired from the Police Service.
