Veteran actress, Marry Afriyie Forson, now 66 years has given a brief account of how she entered the Ghana movie industry.
According to her, she used to watch the “Osofo Daadzie” movie series on TV, so she developed much interest in acting. However, she did not know how she would get the opportunity as a Kumasi-Tafo girl because she thought one had to live in Accra if he or she wants to act. But one day she saw Kumasi-based actor late Kwame Owusu Ansah and actress Naana Hayford in a movie and she said to herself, “this is the right opportunity.”
“I went to Naana Hayford early in the morning at Fox Fm where she directed me to Kumasi Culture Center., that time Miracle films were registering actors and actresses, so I gave my money to Naana Hayford to register for me and eventually I entered in the movie industry.
Speaking on Oyerepa TV ‘Cinefie Showbiz, actress, Afriyie Forson disclosed that, her first movie, “Mr HiPIC” fetched her only GHc10.
“I was given only GHc10 cedis for my first movie, ‘Mr HiPIC’. As soon as I received the money I put it in an envelope and offered it to God.
She disclosed that the highest money she was earning during her time was only GHc50.
“The highest money I was being given those days was only GHc50.”
According to the actress, some movie producers treated her badly and dumped her but Osewus who consistently and fairly worked with her will forever remain in memory.
