Abass Nurudeen, Ashanti Regional Communication Director of the biggest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is wondering why Asantes have consistently dedicated their votes to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Monday, Abass stated that, he does not understand why the Ashanti electorates usually queue to vote for NPP despite not getting the needed development.
According to him, the region that has consistently produced the highest number of votes for the NPP has absolutely gained nothing from the party.
Recall that, in 2020 polls, Asantes gave President Akufo-Addo and the NPP total votes of 1,793, 773 as against the NDC’s Mahama who had 652, 962 votes.
Again in 2016, Asantes produced 1,646,949 votes for Nana Akufo-Addo and his NPP whereas John Mahama and his NDC obtained only 497,242 votes.
Abass Nurudeen believes that, despite the Asantes giving all their votes to NPP, yet Nana Addo and his government have snubbed them.
He said, there is not a single development project the NPP under Akufo-Addo has done in the Ashanti Region.
He declared that all the developments the region is enjoying were done by the NDC under former President Mahama.
He elaborated on projects like the New Kejetia Market, Kumasi international airport, the building of hospitals, construction of roads among others.
He argued that roads in Manso districts, and Atwima Mponua are deplorable, the NPP does not see the need to develop those regions, yet the people will always queue and vote for the party which to him doesn’t make sense.
“If you go to Manso, Atwima Mponua, in fact, all roads in Ashanti are deplorable. So I don’t understand why Asantes have consistently voted for NPP.” The NDC Communication director stated.
