The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) is urging the government to establish a program to recognize and celebrate the contributions of commercial drivers in the country.
Commercial drivers play a crucial role in nation-building, particularly in the economy. They transport workers to their jobs and facilitate daily activities, contributing to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Mr. Samuel Amoah, Deputy National Communications Director for GPRTU, emphasized that commercial drivers often put their lives at risk by navigating poorly maintained roads to serve the needs of Ghanaians.
He highlighted that commercial drivers consistently adhere to government regulations on fare adjustments, even in the face of rising fuel costs. This demonstrates their commitment to supporting the government’s efforts to ensure fair and affordable transportation for all citizens.
