Madam Akua Donkor, the esteemed founder and Presidential Candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has reaffirmed her determination to participate in the forthcoming 2024 elections.
During a recent Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra, Madam Donkor voiced her discontent with what she views as disparaging comments directed towards her candidacy by former President John Dramani Mahama.
“I founded the party [GFP] in 2011 and got it registered in 2012. I formed it myself, I did not take members from any other party. Anytime he [Mahama] speaks, he speaks against me. I followed the instructions of the EC and qualified to contest, so I deserve to be here,” Madam Akua Donkor stated.
Her comments came in response to concerns that have been raised about her qualifications to run for president. Donkor, known for her bold and unconventional political style, made it clear that her candidacy is legitimate, having followed the regulations laid down by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
This is not the first time Akua Donkor has been vocal about her political ambitions. She has long championed the cause of ordinary Ghanaians and remains determined to make an impact on the national political landscape.
Despite the skepticism she faces from some quarters, including her critics within mainstream political circles, Donkor has stayed committed to her vision for Ghana through the Ghana Freedom Party.
As the 2024 election draws closer, it is likely that Donkor will continue to defend her place in the race and push back against those who question her credentials. Whether her unique voice and vision will gain traction with voters remains to be seen, but her participation underscores the diversity of Ghana’s democratic process.
The IPAC meeting in Accra served as a crucial platform for political parties to share their views and strategies ahead of the elections. Donkor’s passionate defense of her candidacy highlighted ongoing discussions around inclusivity and the rights of smaller parties in Ghana’s political arena.
