Four suspected armed robbers were shot and killed by police during a fierce gun battle on the Bekwai-Fomena Highway in the Ashanti Region on Sunday.
According to police sources, the incident occurred after the suspects mounted a roadblock and robbed several commuters traveling along the highway.
A swift response by law enforcement led to an exchange of gunfire, during which four of the suspects were fatally shot.
Two other suspects, who sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation, managed to flee into a nearby bush. A manhunt is currently underway to apprehend them.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects are members of a notorious robbery gang believed to be responsible for a string of armed attacks within the Adansi enclave in recent months.
The Ashanti South Police Command has announced that full details of the operation and ongoing investigations will be shared during a press conference scheduled for Monday, April 14.
