Gospel musician Sonnie Badu has blamed the the Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch invasion by some Ghanaian supporters on losing their bet.
A secion of Ghanaians invaded the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and destroyed some seats after the Black Stars of Ghana lost by a lone goal to Angola in the African Cup of Nations Qualifier Match.
In a post shared via social media, Sonnie Badu argued that the pitch invaders were not worried about the country losing the game. Rather, they were peeved because they lost their bet.
“The reason people go crazy and break things when their team loses often comes down to the bets they’ve placed and the money they’ve lost. When you see a man weeping after a lost match, it’s because he knows the true cost.” He posted.
“The day I realized this was the day I took my heart out of football—it’s a betting game that can make you rich or broke.
So, dear boys, when you’re playing, remember that lives are at stake. Come back stronger. And to the people of Kumasi, I’m deeply sorry that the record has been broken, but let’s continue to support them—they will do better”. He added.
