The Adanse Dompoasehene, Nana Kwabena Bonsu II, performed rituals at the banks of the River Pra in Adanse Praso to allow the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to cross to the Central Region to participate in the Oguaa Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast.
According to him, the purpose of the libation is to ask for the protection of the river god for Otumfuo on his journey as he crosses the southern boundary of Asante territory.
“Stand behind Otumfuo, we want the uplifting of Asanteman. He is going with his entourage; we seek a peaceful journey for him. Anything that would be a blockage, River Pra, please cancel it for us.
“Take the chief linguist and all the other chiefs, including the people going from the Ashanti Region to the place, safely. This is what we are looking for. He has a goat with a tail, so protect him and grant him traveling mercies,” Nana Kwabena Bonsu said while pouring the libation.
He also sacrificed the goat, which is a customary offering made to appease the river deities and ancestors to ensure a safe passage.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is attending the Oguaa Fetu Afahye, an annual festival celebrated by the people of Cape Coast (Oguaa).
The festival, which typically takes place in the first week of September, is one of the most significant cultural events in Ghana’s Central Region. It marks the 60th anniversary of the festival this year.
