Commercial transport operators are demanding immediate repairs to the Pokuase–Nsawam road, describing its current state as dangerously impassable and a threat to motorists, commuters, and residents.

In a statement dated August 14, the operators said the road’s deteriorated condition has sharply increased operational costs through frequent vehicle repairs, spare parts replacement, and shortened vehicle lifespans.

They stressed that the impact extends beyond commercial drivers, disrupting travel for all motorists heading to the Eastern, Ashanti, and northern regions, and affecting daily economic activities.

The groups revealed that the Minister for Roads and Highways had earlier assured them the road would be made motorable within six weeks, but the deadline has passed with no visible progress.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of TUC, the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), and allied groups have given government a one-week ultimatum to take “meaningful action” or face an indefinite transport shutdown.

They are also urging all motorists, commuters, and residents affected by the road’s condition to join the planned protest, describing it as a civic responsibility to hold authorities accountable.
