Mr. Solomon Anane, former Ashanti Regional National Democratic Congress, (NDC) communication officer has said, the New Patriotic Party quest to cut sod for the construction of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Ghana is needless.
Recall that, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will on Wednesday January 12, 2022 cut sod for the construction of the Accra Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Academy (Accra STEM Academy) today.
The project according to the NPP government will leverage Science and Technology for socio-economic transformation in the country. The Ministry of Education (MoE) on the order hand has described it as the country’s 21st-century school.
Subsequently, the NDC communicator believes, the sod-cutting of the project is needless and a waste of public fund.
“Cutting sod to build new schools for STEM academy is needless.”
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Wednesday, Chaired by Bismarck Brown aka BB, the NDC communicator explained that, the NPP government ought to consider resourcing existing technical schools in the country to give learners a professional training rather than wasting money to build new institutions.
“If the country wants to do STEM academy, we don’t have to cut sod to build new schools. We should resource existing technical institutions, thus give them the necessary equipments to give our students a professional training.” Mr Solomon Anane suggested.
He intimated that, if those existing schools are well resourced, the STEM agenda of the NPP could be achieved. But, he does not see the success of the STEM project because President Akuffo-Addo has cut sod for numerous projects to be constructed since he assumed office but none of those developments is working.
“Akufo-Addo has cut sod for many projects but none is working.”
As a result, he does not see the need for touching on another project whilst others are still hanging in space.
