COCOBOD recently organized a seminar for cocoa farmers in the different farming communities of the Ashanti Region. The event took place in Tepa Ahafo Ano, located in the northern part of the municipality.
The seminar was a vibrant and engaging gathering, honoured by the presence of Tepamanhene Nana Adusi Atwenewaa Ampem.
Speaking to Oyerepa News, Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, emphasized the importance of such events.
“We came to engage the farmers. We have visited several farms and observed some changes they are facing on their farms. We have educated them on various ways to do their farm so they can get enough bags at the end. After visiting their farms, we realized they were lacking certain things, like pruning. Even some of them don’t know about pronouncing, and we educate them on it.”
Tepamanhene Nana Adusi Atwenewaa Ampem thanked COCOBOD CEO and his staff for the education they gave to their people.
We thank you and your people for this wonderful seminar. I am sure that with what you taught us, by next year, the farmers here will be able to get more bags of cocoa.
The chief further urged the COCOBOD CEO to set up punishment for cocoa buyers who cheat farmers.
“There should be punishment for cocoa buyers who cheat farmers. We all heard how the farmer lamented about how the buyers had highjacked their scales to steal from the poor farmers. I am reminding you of your promise that the cocoa price would increase by next year.” The chief urged.
