Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani, former chief of staff under President Kufuor, has issued a stark warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP): shape up or risk losing the party altogether. This caution comes on the heels of the party’s significant loss in the recent 2024 elections.
During a discussion on Metro TV, Mpiani emphasized the need for the party to reunite and reassess its strategy. He believes that the party’s problems began when they removed Paul Afoko as chairman and Kwabena Agyapong as general secretary.
Mpiani suggests that the party should bring in an outsider, someone who is sympathetic to the party but not beholden to its internal politics, to investigate the causes of their defeat. This external perspective would provide a more objective analysis of the party’s shortcomings.
The NPP has already set up a committee to examine the election loss, but Mpiani thinks that an external investigator would be more effective in identifying the root causes of the problem. He also stressed the importance of bringing back party members who were pushed away or felt disenfranchised.
This comes at a time when the NPP is facing significant challenges, including a perceived enthusiasm gap among its supporters and growing discontent with the party’s performance in government.
