A delegation, led by Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), paid a courtesy visit to the executive of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) to discuss matters of mutual interest between the association and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The military has committed to safeguarding the Constitution and the will of the people, ensuring that they do not engage in any activities that could jeopardize the peace and democracy of the nation.
According to GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, everyone can rest assured that the military’s primary focus is on protecting the nation’s territorial integrity, rather than engaging in destructive actions.
He also encouraged the media to highlight the positive stories emerging from the GAF, emphasizing that it is not only negative news that captures attention, but also the positive developments within the armed forces.
Mr. Dwumfour noted that the military-media relationship has strengthened over time, contributing to the growth of democracy in the country. This cordial relationship has allowed the media to fulfill their responsibilities without fear of military interference. He further expressed the GJA’s commitment to strengthening the bond between the military and the media fraternity.
In this regard, he stated that the GJA will continue to engage with the leadership of the GAF periodically, seeking innovative ways to maintain this bond.
The military has also raised concerns with the GJA regarding the Onua TV/FM incident, and Mr. Dwumfour assured the CDS that the committee will thoroughly investigate the matter.
