The Ghana Physician Assistants Association has held its 22nd Annual Conference at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Gomoa Fetteh, with a strong appeal to the government to address its long-standing challenges to motivate members in their life-saving duties.
According to Mr Peter Akuduba Ayamba, the President of the Association, many members who have completed their training over the past six years remain unemployed due to a lack of placement opportunities, despite several hospitals across the country being without physician assistants.
Speaking on the theme “Repositioning Physician Assistants for Leadership in Primary Health Care: A Call for Innovation, Collaboration and Professional Recognition,” Mr Ayamba emphasised the urgent need for government intervention.
He appealed to authorities to address their financial constraints and expedite the completion of abandoned hospital projects, including those under the Agenda 111 initiative, to create more job opportunities for members.
Meanwhile, Dr Samuel Kwabena Boakye Boateng, Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation at the Ghana Health Service, speaking on behalf of the Director-General, assured the association that the government remains committed to resolving their concerns.
He also urged physician assistants to remain patient and dedicated as the government works to improve conditions within the health sector.
