Residents of Buokrom Estate E-Line in the Manhyia North constituency of the Ashanti Region have raised their voices over a deathtrap bridge in the community.
The residents fear, if the bridge is not fixed before the rains commence, many people might be carried away should it get flooded.
Speaking to Oyerepa News, the E-Line residents said, the bridge collapsed about 10 years ago. According to them, they have made several attempts to fix it but it is beyond their capability. They have however reported the problem to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly but nothing has been done.
They revealed that vehicles are unable to cross the bridge to the community, invariably they are being offloaded to cross the deathtrap bridge themselves.
“They began working on the bridge about 10 years ago but didn’t complete it. When it rains students are unable to cross it to school because it heavily floods,” a resident bemoaned.
“The bridge is very dangerous, people fall into it every day, we’re afraid one day one of our children might fall victim to this deathtrap bridge,” another resident lamented.
The E-line residents have however, called on the government of Ghana to fix it as soon as possible.
