Effiduase-Asokore’s Member of Parliament, Dr. Ayew Afriye, has disclosed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will once again present Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its candidate in the 2028 general elections despite losing wholesomely to President John Mahama in the 2024 elections.
Speaking during an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Time with host Kwesi Parker Wilson, Dr. Afriye shared his thoughts on the political direction of the NPP stating that;
“NPP will definitely present Bawumia again….. Why would you want to change Bawumia?
John Mahama lost big time in 2016 but NDC didn’t dump him, they brought him because he was popular. So in my thinking on what has happened, we don’t have to change Bawumia because he garnered 4.7 million votes so must we bring a new face to lead NPP?
We don’t have to change Bawumia.”
Dr. Ayew Afriye’s comments highlight the growing anticipation around the party’s next steps and the various blame games surrounding the loss in the 2024 elections.
According to him Dr. Bawumia is a key figure in the NPP and has strong support within the party’s ranks. For this reason, the party is considering bringing him back to lead the party in the 2028 polls.
