Bishop Elijah Salifu Amoako, Founder of Alive Chapel International, along with his wife, Mouha, and their sales assistant, Linda Bonsu Bempah, have been re-arrested moments after being discharged by an Accra Circuit Court.
The re-arrest followed the Attorney-General’s decision to withdraw the initial charges against them. However, shortly after their discharge, police officers took them into custody again to face fresh charges related to a fatal accident involving their 16-year-old son, Elrad Amoako.
The trio was first arrested on October 15, 2024, after preliminary investigations indicated they had allowed their underage son to drive a vehicle without a valid license.
On October 12, 2024, at East Legon, the teenager drove a white Jaguar F-Pace Sports without a license and collided with an Acura utility vehicle. The impact caused the Acura to catch fire, tragically resulting in the deaths of two young girls.
Legal experts have described the re-arrest as a procedural measure commonly employed in criminal cases when initial charges are deemed inadequate.
Prosecutors can withdraw charges, re-arrest suspects, and file new charges to restart the legal process.
As investigations continue into how the minor was permitted to operate the vehicle unlawfully, Bishop Amoako and his co-accused are expected to be arraigned again in court.
